Wind and Hammers is a vehicle for exploring unusual and intricate grooves, based on different methods of manipulating rhythmic groupings and perceptions. It uses different rhythmic concepts - such as odd time signatures, polyrhythms, shifting subdivisions, cross rhythms, and isorhythms - individually and in combination, to create unfamiliar cycles as a basis for grooves, compositions, and improvisation. A trio of sax/piano/drums provides the freedom for these cycles to develop and grow, and the opportunity for different textural and ensemble roles to be filled by each player.

Lebowskis acknowledges that this event will take place on the lands of the Wurundjeri tribe of the Kulin nation and pays its respects to their elders past, present and emerging.
