5:15 - Tam Vantage
Following up his 2015 release ʻLife in High Definitionʼ, ʻShow Me To The Sunʼ enters our musical sphere as the second full length album by Melbourneʼs own Tam Vantage. After an inter-album period of sunken emotions, band leader Tam had utmost faith in band members Chris (guitar), Rowan (bass) and Jack (drums) to help conceive and father his brain child. They booked a weekend with producer John Lee (Lost Animal, Hollow Everdaze, Free Time) and tracked all the core instrumentation. Further writing of lyrics and overdubs followed, with these finishing touches being captured at Chrisʼ home studio. This album presents a more immersive and shoe-gaze influenced sound than that of Tamʼs previous work with T.V. (and further back, his work with Pop Singles). The album is at times conflicted about its focal point; it balances an obsession with negativity, death and low expectations with a fragile human sensitivity and a desire for something more fulfilling than that which is at hand.
6:15pm - Soft Power (single launch)
Matthew Roche - guitar
Oscar Neyland - double bass
Chris Cameron - drums
Soft Power is a long standing musical project by guitarist Matthew Roche that is undoubtedly jazz-tinged but also (more importantly) vulnerable, genderless, dorky & kitsch, unshowy and meditative. After a sold out album launch early last year with ‘A Breath Is Like a Swinging Door’ and with new band members and many successful shows later, they return to launch a new single ‘Getting Out of The Way of Yourself’. Taken from their upcoming album which is due for a mid 2018 release, the new single marks a radical shift in direction for Soft Power as they dig deep into slow tempo instrumental pop jams exploring themes of self-awareness and personal growth.
