5:15pm - Scandinavia's Greatest Hits

Holy Moore - saxophone
Jarrod Chase - piano & electronics

Scandinavia’s Greatest Hits is a collaboration between alto saxophonist Holly Moore and pianist Jarrod Chase. They draw inspiration from the popular European record label ECM and ambient electronic music. Melding the sounds and ideas from these influences the two play freely and lyrically over original compositions and those of some of their favourite musicians.

Scandinavia's Greatest Hits were the recipients of Dev Res III in 2017.

Having met at the Australian Art Orchestra’s 2016 Creative Music Intensive, Gannon and Hughes have continued working together, developing a language around their mutual interest in traditional Korean Hohup rhythms and Pansori. The duo aims to combine this language with their individual electro-acoustic projects. The imagined aesthetic is one of broad and resonant textures, with an ancient or ritualistic feel generated by the gamelan instruments and cyclical rhythmic cells. Although only a duo, the possibilities of timbre and colour are vast, with the electronics used to elongate sounds, repeat phrases from the past, or add depth and complexity to the live instrument.

Bianca Gannon & Elliot Hughes were the recipients of Dev Res IV in 2017.
